A premium quality African Springbok hide with a magnificent natural shade. Add layers of neutral texture to chairs, lounges and floors. Like Cowhide, Springbok hide is extremely durable.

Springboks are reddish brown to chocolate brown in colour with a cream underside. They have a white stripe (known as the "crest") that runs from the small of their back to the base of their tail.

Each skin is beautifully unique - this image serves as a representation of colour and pattern. As with any 100% natural product, there may be minor variations in colour, shade and/or pattern.

Springbok hides are obtained during the culling season in South Africa and all Springbok hides are regulated by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna) to ensure that there has been no illegal culling or poaching of these pelts. It is critical to cull species such as Springbok in smaller game reserves, otherwise the herds swell to a point where food becomes scarce and all grazing animals will starve. As Springbok hides are not on the protected or endangered list, they can be legally exported from South Africa without a license or certificate.

Culling Springbok, which breed prolifically, is an extremely beneficial and ethical method of ensuring healthy herds. It is critical to to game reserve management and the social benefits it promotes are numerous. This initiative is carefully managed and is often undertaken by tribes or communities surrounding the game reserves. Every part of the animal is utilised and much needed revenue is stimulated by selling the hides, immensely helping impoverished communities.
