Size: 2.7 x 1.5 metres
Material: Hand loomed sheep's wool and metal sequins.
Colour: Off White with brocade pieces
A magnificent Moroccan wedding blanket (or "Handira"), woven in natural undyed wool and decorated with brocade and sequins, considered to ward off the evil eye and protect (they also reflect the sun light during the day and the glow of fire at night!).
It would suit Double, Queen (shown) and King size beds. The only thing that varies is the amount of "over-hang" you end up with on the sides. Fold it across the foot of your bed for those cooler nights, give your living room look an update and drape it over your couch or on the floor, or create a magnificent feature wall by hanging it up.
Handiras are handwoven by berber women in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. This Handira measures 2.7 metres x 1.5 metres.
About Moroccan Wedding Blankets
Moroccan Wedding Blankets are sourced high in the Atlas mountains in Berber villages. They were made for Berber brides, who would wear them as capes to keep warm as they were walking to their new husband's house. The women in the bride's family would work on each one for months, using hand loomed sheep's wool and painstakingly adding round, metal sequins one by one, by hand. All that work takes a lot of time, so these precious creations were reserved for the best and most important day - the wedding.
Fold it across the foot of your bed for those cooler nights, give your living room look an update and drape it over your couch or create a magnificent feature wall by hanging it up.
